What you need to take note for your renovation
You may be deciding to renovate your home for a new, fresh look. But before you do that, you will need to take note of some important things to ensure that you can get the dream home you always wanted. Here are some things to look out for your renovation.
1. Know your dream home
Before you find an interior designer and contractor, look through pictures of houses and their themes. You might be surprised how many different themes there are for your house. Popular themes for your home include Scandinavian, Eclectic, Minimalist, Industrial and Retro are just some to name a few. So check out home renovation websites for your inspiration

2. Reliable interior designer and contractor
Recommended designers and contractors by your friends and family may be the best way to go. You will have people who will vouch for their work and will be able to see their work in real life. If you are finding one online, do remember to check their previous projects and reviews on their works.
3. Layout Plan
Once you’ve gotten your designer and contractor, have a meeting with them to discuss the kind of home you want in detail such that it comes out the way you wanted it. Important details such as the colour scheme of the room, the type of floor, the size of the cupboard and the lighting of each room should be discussed. After you have done that, ask them for a detailed quotation for the renovation. The detailed quotation will not only be for checking but also for you to ensure that all works recommended are necessary in your home.
4. Additional Charges
If you think of installing additional electrical and lighting points, rewiring your air-con, water heaters or ceiling fans, do check out the cost for doing so. Installing extra electrical and lighting points can cost you roughly $70 and $40.
5. Suitability of material
With Singapore having humid and hot weather all year around, there are some materials that may be more suitable for sustainability. If you have little time to clean your home, choose materials that require little maintenance. Though cement or hardwood floors may look beautiful, they require lots of maintenance as compared to homogenous tiling. If you have children or pets, you may want to choose materials that are slip and scratch proof. Cheap materials though easier on the budget may not last in the long run and require additional costs in the budget.
